watson mill farm
in historic saco, maine
My Mother bought Thurston Homestead in 1989 from Rachel Thurston. We lived in a tent in the front yard because the house wasn't livable yet. She wanted to create a farm where people and animals could come to be born, heal, live, love, and die. We started rescuing horses, then puppies, kittens, more horses… and soon we were creating a self sustaining life out of survival and necessity. We have loved and buried many animals along the way.
My Love for the world and everything in it started very young, I wanted to make a difference. After moving back to the family farm in 2013 and having my own children, my world changed to Organic. I am highly motivated by food and I will not skimp on the quality. I did more research in that time of my life than I ever did in school. The more I learned the more I realized more people were just like me, wanting local, organic, humanely raised meats.
With my Native American upbringing, I discovered that I wanted to create a ceremony of life for any animal that comes to my farm. I want to honor and acknowledge their gift of nourishment, show respect and give peace in their last moments.
My promise is to provide for my family and my community,

Pastures New
The Earth’s Circle is All EnCompassing
Speak!
Let the past die, Its ashes feeding growth
old tendrils wither and fall,
their former robustness fading to gray stillness
And yet…
Their life passes on, new grasses rise,
new flowers bloom, new fields develop.
The pigs squeal, the lambs baa, the chickens cluck, the cows moo
Let that lesson be learned
By both me and you…
As we move on
to Pastures New

our livestock guardian dogs
the sun’s angle at this latitude produces deep and contrasty colors, drawing out the blacks in the volcanic soil and saturating the greens from the grasses and moss.
